City of Moreton Bay-based Kangaroo Bus Lines has secured another avenue for growth, partnering with global transport company FlixBus to operate its Brisbane-Sydney express service.

The partnership comes after a major period of expansion for the family-owned transport company, which acquired Brisbane Bus Lines in June.

As Moreton Daily Business reported following the acquisition, the deal expanded Kangaroo Bus Lines to 250 buses and coaches across five depots, supported by 388 employees.

Kangaroo Bus Lines (KBL) will operate the FlixBus service from October 1, initially running one service in each direction each day before increasing to two daily services from November 5.

The route will extend beyond Brisbane to Caboolture, giving the City of Moreton Bay a direct coach connection to Sydney. Other stops include the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.

Kangaroo Bus Lines Chief Executive Officer Darren Webster said the partnership would create new opportunities for the business.

“We pride ourselves on our long history of moving people and connecting communities,” Darren said.

“Joining forces with FlixBus Australia is an exciting opportunity to bring more travellers a reliable, high-quality way to journey between Brisbane and Sydney. Partnering with a global tech mobility brand like FlixBus allows us to modernise and innovate our operations and opens up new opportunities for growth – expanding our business and creating local jobs – all while continuing to support the Queensland communities we’ve served for nearly five decades.”

The agreement follows the growth plans Darren outlined after the Brisbane Bus Lines acquisition, when he said further expansion was on the agenda as the company invested in its people, fleet and infrastructure.

FlixBus Senior Managing Director Australia Yvan Lefranc-Morin said experienced local operators were important to the company’s Australian expansion.

“We’re very excited to begin this partnership with Kangaroo Bus Lines. As we further expand our footprint in Australia, we’re continuously looking for trusted local bus partners who can deliver the highest quality of service to customers,” Yvan said.

FlixBus launched in Australia in November 2025 and says it now connects more than 40 regional destinations and major centres across Victoria, the ACT, NSW and Queensland through partnerships with local operators.

For Kangaroo Bus Lines, the interstate partnership adds another growth channel following its Brisbane Bus Lines acquisition, while Caboolture gains a direct coach connection to Sydney.
