Moreton Bay is set for a multi-million dollar economic boost after plans for a new five-star hotel were given the green light this week.

The Comiskey Group’s lifes tyle, leisure and hospitality precinct is expected to generate more than 880 jobs in construction and operation over the first five years.

And that is estimated to pump $538 million dollars into the local economy while creating a cultural hub for the City’s fast-growing population.

The $180 million North Lakes Town Centre will be on a vacant 1.72 hectares opposite Westfield North Lakes. Construction will start early next year.

It will be anchored by a 144-room, 2000sqm, nine-storey hotel within the 25,000sqm precinct which will attract customers both day and night.

Director Rob Comiskey says the approval marked a major milestone for a project designed to change the way people experience North Lakes.

He said the site will be “transformed” by a “curated mix of restaurants, lifestyle and retail operators, health and wellness businesses, family entertainment and commercial offerings”.

“We see this as something genuinely different for North Lakes and for Moreton Bay,” Mr Comiskey said.

“We’ve deliberately moved away from the traditional shopping centre model. There isn’t currently a destination of this scale or this calibre in the area bringing all of these experiences together.

“This is about creating somewhere people actually want to spend time, whether that’s staying in the hotel, going out for dinner, meeting friends, enjoying entertainment, exercising or simply spending time in the public spaces.

“The approval means we can now move into the next exciting stage of bringing this vision to life.”

Following the approval, Mayor Peter Flannery said City of Moreton Bay “is proving to be a genuine hotspot for hotel and hospitality investment”.

“This significant commitment by Comiskey Group is another strong vote of confidence in our growing visitor economy and the enormous opportunities our City presents,” he said.

“This approval marks an exciting milestone for North Lakes and for Moreton Bay, with a world-class dining, accommodation, entertainment and lifestyle precinct set to create a landmark destination for locals and visitors.

“It’s fantastic to see Comiskey Group’s vision continue to take shape in the heart of North Lakes, delivering the premium experience our community has been calling for.

“It also helps position Moreton Bay as a must-visit destination ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.”

The Comiskey Group is based in Moreton Bay and built and runs venues including the Eatons Hill and Sandstone Point Hotels.

Expressions of interest are now open with North Lakes Town Centre leases for retailers, restaurateurs, wellness operators, entertainment businesses and commercial tenants.
